It is hard to believe we are already halfway through the month of May, which means warm summer months are right around the corner. For Torstenson Glass and many of our customers, it means the start of what is typically a busy school project season. Many school districts use the summer months for renovations and additions to their facilities, leading to the need for code-compliant fire-rated and security glazing products.
At Torstenson Glass, we have been a UL-compliant stocking fabricator of fire-rated glass for 20+ years. With new rated and security glass products recently added to our offering, now is a great time to highlight what we currently have in stock—available for quick turnaround to support school projects this summer season.
WireLite NT – ¼” wire glass with surface-applied safety film
Traditional wire glass is no longer considered code-compliant for use in impact-rated locations. WireLite NT is an economical option for fire-rated applications, with the aesthetic of wire glass and required impact rating from the surface-applied film.
FireLite NT – 3/16” glass ceramic with a surface-applied safety film
Fire-rated and impact-rated for use in doors. When the look of wire glass is not desired, the FireLite NT is a great alternative, offering the same fire and safety rating in a wireless ceramic glass option.
FireLite Plus – 5/16” Laminated glass ceramic
For higher traffic areas, The FireLite Plus offers the same fire and safety rating as the FireLite NT, but doing so in a laminated makeup. This option improves long term durability over the surface-applied film option.
FireLite Plus Forced Entry – 3/8” laminated glass ceramic with enhanced security protection
New to Torstenson’s stocked offering, the FireLite Plus Forced Entry offers the same fire rating and durability as the 5/16” Plus, with the additional characteristic of enhanced security and forced-entry protection.
FireLite IGU – fire-rated insulated glass unit
Newer to our UL-listing is the ability to offer FireLite IGUs. These insulated units consist of one piece of fire-rated glass (WireLite NT, FireLite NT or FireLite Plus) insulated to monolithic non-rated glass. The non-rated portion can be regular clear tempered glass, decorative/pattern glass, or Low E/Solarban coated glass for exterior applications.
As with all fire-rated glass, there are size limitations depending on application and required fire-rating. The team at Torstenson is available to answer any product questions you may have, navigate code requirements, and provide project quotes in a timely manner. Our new location in Morton Grove allows for a much easier pick-up process, and our truck fleet delivers throughout Chicagoland. We look forward to partnering with you this summer!
